This timeless libation traces its roots back to the early 19th century and is believed to be America's first cocktail. Born in New orleans, the drink originally started with a Cognac base, but due to shortages it was replaced with Rye Whiskey.

INGREDIENTS

• 30ml Batch One Brandy

• 30ml Rye Whiskey (we love Rittenhouse or Elijah Craig Rye)

• 10ml Sugar Syrup

• 3 Dashes Peychaud's Bitters

• 3ml Absinthe (we recommend Devil's Botany)

METHOD

• Add all ingredients to a mixing glass

• Add loads of ice

• Stir 50 times

• Check dilution level

• Stir again if required

• Add absinthe to a Nick & Nora glass

• Rinse around the inside and discard any extra

• Pour ingredients into the glass and serve
